Sometimes, as a movement professional, you may encounter difficulties in helping clients improve their range of motion. For instance, when it comes to achieving a toe touch, no matter how diligently you stretch their hamstrings and calves, target their back muscles, or release their plantar fascia, progress can often be slow and inconsistent.
Why?
The Central Nervous System (CNS) is incredibly intelligent. When we lack stability in a specific position, such as rounding our lower backs during a toe touch, the CNS prevents us from performing that movement or touching our toes. It does so to protect us from potential injuries. However, once the surrounding muscles in the lower back effectively stabilize us, the CNS unlocks a new range of motion, enabling us to reach and touch our toes.
